Former Manchester United legend and ITV pundit Gary Neville was one of the critics of Alexander-Arnold over his performances as the Three Lions scraped past Serbia with a 1-0 win on the night thanks to Jude Bellingham. The former full-back tore into the Liverpool star's skill set as he went on to insinuate that a full-back is a full-back because they've previously not been good enough to play further forward. However, Neville has also received a lot of criticism for his opinions about the 25-year-old.

Speaking on ITV, the former right-back said: "There's something for me, just thinking that Gareth wants to get Gallagher into the team. He's obviously going to make unpopular decisions, Gareth, and he's not scared of it. But I think there's an element of wanting to get Gallagher into the team but he knows that would be deemed as being quite negative. I think he's gone half in, he's not gone Gallagher, he's not gone Mainoo."
Fellow pundit and Manchester United legend Roy Keane agreed with Neville and said: "If you're a midfielder and see a right-back getting in ahead of you… you're not going to be happy."
