Greenwood unveiled by MarseillePlayer asked about controverisal pastClub later cut off a second questionWHAT HAPPENED?
As Marseille introduced both Greenwood to the media, a journalist in attendance tried to ask the 22-year-old about the charges of assault, attempted rape and coercive control that were brought against him but later dropped. This led to a pretty awkward moment, with Greenwood sitting still as the journalist persisted with asking the question.
On a live blog of the press conference, RMC Sport reported the exchange: "Mason Greenwood questioned again about past accusations against him, player does not respond. OM communication cuts the question. The journalist asks it anyway but Mason Greenwood does not answer and we move on to the next question."

The first time the issue, which has divided Marseille fans since a permanent transfer from Manchester United was agreed, was brought up, Greenwood didn't directly address the allegations but said he understood why it was being asked. His response was also similar to what he had earlier told in a first interview since joining Marseille. The charges had been dropped in February 2023 due to the withdrawal of key witnesses and the diminished chance of the prosecution securing a conviction.
WHAT GREENWOOD SAID
Greenwood said: "I understand the questions, I don't want to talk about it too much or get into debates and controversies. I already spoke about it on Thursday with the supporters and I spoke about it last season. I want to move forward, I want to be part of Olympique de Marseille. I want me, my partner and my little girl to be happy in Marseille. My intention is really to concentrate on the football part."

Greenwood, who spent last season on loan with Getafe, said he wants to concentrate on the "football part". That starts immediately with pre-season training, while Marseille have a handful of summer friendlies against Nimes, Toulon, Pau, Sunderland and Augsburg between July 21 and August 10. The new Ligue 1 campaign then kicks off against Brest eight days after the last of those scheduled warm-ups.
