Petr Cech picked up a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Watford last weekend that will keep him out of action for around 3-4 weeks, but the majority of Arsenal fans that voted in our poll want Bernd Leno to remain in goal even when the veteran keeper returns.
Cech is now 36 years of age and this season was asked by Emery to completely change the way he has played throughout his career, by passing the ball out from the back. Unfortunately for the former Czech Republic international, he looked far from comfortable with the ball at his feet and made a number of high-profile errors before his injury.
During the summer the Gunners paid Bayer Leverkusen £22m for their German international keeper Leno, and his start in the Carabao Cup clash over Brentford would not have filled Arsenal fans with much confidence as a misplaced touch nearly went straight into his own net.
Against Watford though, Leno produced a fine save from Troy Deeney to keep the scores level at 0-0 and he was rewarded with a clean sheet and three points as a goal from Mesut Ozil and a Craig Cathcart own goal saw Emery’s side climb to fifth in the table.
Now, 61 per cent of Arsenal fans want Leno to be the first choice even when Cech is back. Check out the full results of the poll below.
